Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an illustrator?
An illustrator imagines and creates images; those images often go with words in books.
An author comes up with a story and then writes the words on a page. The illustrator interprets what the words mean and turns them into pictures.
It’s your turn to be the illustrator. Read the story The Oddball, written by Ashely Sollenberger, on the following pages. Then add colors, marks, and shapes to each page. There are already a few marks, lines, and shapes on the pages to help you get started.
Illustrator, Amber Kane, made illustrations for this story. You can check out The Oddball (the storybook) and see if you came up with similar ideas. Even if you didn’t, that’s okay. We all have different imaginations.
Activities on pages 30-71 give you lots of fun ways to practice your skills as an author and illustrator.
